Bodies That Refuse Erasure: censorship and the underground survival of dance in Iran.
A lecture-performance and artist-scholar project about the spaces in which dance survived after 1979: living rooms, basements, private studios, memory, and the bodies of the people who kept moving.
This is not a story with false closure. It is an embodied history of restriction and invention—and of dance carried forward through intimate, hidden, and collective practice.
The project works with first-person authority, cultural memory, and witnessed experience. Lived history is not treated as an anecdote beside scholarship; it is a way of producing knowledge.
Movement, testimony, image, and historical framing meet without forcing the work into a conventional historical lecture.
When dance is pushed out of public life, it does not disappear. It reorganizes: in homes, basements, coded language, informal networks, and acts of trust.
The work traces that infrastructure while connecting it to the public dancing, joy, and embodied resistance of Woman Life Freedom.
